Targeted Learners/Content area: I envision that I might use this Tinkercad tree to help us encapsulate some of the themes of a unit on The Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I feel like this book would probably be appropriate for 6th or 7th graders in an ELA or interdisciplinary classroom.
Lesson objectives: The learning objectives of using Tinkercad during an English unit would be to help students understand the idea of symbolism and representing ideas with objects or pictures.
Lesson context: I’d definitely put this technology at the end of a unit because we would’ve had time to read the book, discuss it, understand some of the themes, and go over symbolism. I want students to have the opportunity to create something that will help them remember and understand what was learned during the unit.
Goal of technology use: The goal of this technology is to help students work on their spacial and engineering skills, but also to give students the opportunity to use agency and choice in designing an object to symbolize and encapsulate what they’ve learned in reading and studying A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.
Brief description of how technology will be used with students: I’ll have students spend time using their notes and writing from the unit to help them design the object. Then, students will print their objects and have a chance to share why they chose that object and how it relates to what they learned with the class in 2-3 minutes.
